ABOUT US
Elevo's mission is to transform the well-being of students, so they look forward to coming to school. Our WASC-accredited curriculum engages students and fosters social-emotional learning through fun, physically active games, sports, and enrichment activities across arts, humanities, and STEM. Through our Expanded Learning Opportunities Program, Before & After School Programs, and Summer & Intersession Programs, we create environments where students learn, move, and thrive beyond the classroom.
THE ROLE
The Safety Manager leads Elevo's safety strategy and day-to-day safety program management, with a clear focus on reducing injury frequency, strengthening prevention, and improving Workers' Compensation performance. This is a single point of ownership for injury prevention across every region and program, so safety operates as a managed discipline rather than a set of efforts spread across teams.
The role sits at the intersection of Training, Field Operations, and People Operations. It embeds safety into onboarding, refresher training, field training, and manager development, identifies operational risk at the site level, and builds accountability for safe practices across the field. It also owns implementation of the recommendations from Elevo's May 2026 risk assessment, translating that report into prioritized action, named owners, and tracked progress.
The best person in this seat is equally comfortable analyzing claims data and standing in a gym or on a blacktop watching how a program actually runs. They make safety practical and engaging for a largely part-time, early-tenure workforce, and they turn incidents into learning rather than paperwork.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety Strategy & Program Ownership
-Own Elevo's safety strategy and day-to-day safety program management, with accountability for reducing injury frequency and improving Workers' Compensation performance
-Lead implementation of the recommendations in Elevo's May 2026 risk assessment, including prioritizing first-year actions, coordinating cross-functional owners, and tracking progress against milestones
-Establish safety standards, pre-shift routines, and site-level expectations that hold up across regions and program types
Training & Prevention
-Partner with the Training team to embed safety into onboarding, refresher training, field training, and manager development so safe practices are consistently taught, reinforced, and measured
-Redesign safety checkpoints and coaching reinforcement for the first ninety days of employment, where injury risk is highest
-Translate injury trends and field observations into practical recommendations that improve curriculum delivery, facilitation practices, and site safety expectations
Field Partnership & Risk Identification
-Collaborate with Field Operations leaders to identify operational safety risks and improve site-level safety practices
-Conduct site visits and safety audits to observe delivery conditions, surface hazards, and validate that standards are being followed
-Build stronger accountability for injury prevention across regions, programs, and manager levels
Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis
-Conduct and oversee root cause analyses for field injuries, near misses, and safety incidents to identify underlying drivers, corrective actions, and preventive measures
-Maintain a consistent investigation process so Elevo learns from patterns rather than responding to individual claims
-Track corrective actions to closure and verify that fixes hold in the field
Reporting Culture & Engagement
-Design simple, engaging, and creative approaches to safety reporting, including gamified reporting and recognition strategies
-Increase near-miss reporting, hazard identification, and safe behavior reinforcement across the coach and site manager population
-Make safety visible and rewarding for frontline staff, so risks surface before injuries occur
Data, Dashboards & Leadership Reporting
-Develop dashboards, metrics, and regular reporting on injury frequency, root causes, corrective actions, reporting participation, and program adoption
-Provide leadership with the data and trends needed to set expectations, measure compliance, and hold managers accountable for corrective actions
-Monitor the effectiveness of safety initiatives through trend analysis, field feedback, and audit results, and refine programs continuously
Policy & Compliance Partnership
-Partner with People Operations, Training, and Field Operations to strengthen safety-related policies, job expectations, accountability measures, and performance management practices
-Ensure programs meet Cal/OSHA, Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), and other applicable regulatory requirements
-Partner with People Operations and the broker or carrier on claims review, return-to-work practices, and Workers' Compensation strategy
Continuous Improvement
-Design and deploy a strategy to improve safety KPIs and install a Safety First culture in Operations.
-Design and deploy systems to sustain safety improvements in an accelerated growth and high attrition environment.

-Strong data skills, with the ability to build dashboards and translate trends into clear recommendations for leadership
-Ability to influence without authority across training, operations, and people functions
-Reliable transportation and ability to travel regularly between program sites across California

-Creative, able to make safety engaging for a young, largely part-time workforce
-Organized and follow-through driven, with a bias toward closing loops

SUCCESS METRICS (FIRST YEAR)
Performance is measured on the outcomes below. Baselines are set within the first thirty days, with targets agreed immediately after. Metrics are reviewed in the existing forums: monthly safety review, quarterly business review, and the annual Workers' Compensation renewal cycle.
Metric | Target / what good looks like | How it is measured |
Injury frequency | Measurable year over year reduction in claim frequency, the primary driver of Elevo's experience modification factor | Claims per 100 employees, tracked monthly against baseline |
Early-tenure injury rate | Reduction in the share of claims occurring in the first three months and first year of employment | Claims by tenure band, against the current 21% and 59% baselines |
Risk assessment implementation | First-year recommendations from the May 2026 assessment prioritized, owned, and delivered on schedule | Milestone completion against the implementation plan |
Near-miss and hazard reporting | Sustained growth in reporting participation, with hazards surfaced before injuries occur | Reports submitted per site per month, and percent of sites reporting |
Corrective action closure | Corrective actions from investigations closed within the agreed window, with verified follow-through | Percent closed on time, and repeat-incident rate by root cause |
Safety training completion | Full field team trained and current on safety expectations before delivery begins | Percent complete pre-launch, from the training tracker |
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
-Must pass DOJ & FBI Live Scan (background check)
-TB clearance
-Completion of Mandated Reporter Training (upon hire)
-Ability to meet physical demands of an active program environment
